The First Alert 2096DF is part of the exclusive line of waterproof fire safes. The 2096DF offers a complete security solution for the three major hazards: theft, flood and fire. The safe’s anti-theft features include patented pry-resistant concealed hinges, a programmable (use your own personal 3 to 8 digit pass-code), digital lock and 6 door locking bolts. This First Alert 2.13 cubic foot fire safe is UL classified for 1 hour to withstand an external temperature of 1700 degrees Fahrenheit while maintaining an internal temperature of less than 350 degrees. The safe has been tested by an independent testing lab and verified to protect digital media including memory sticks, CD’s, DVD’s and external hard drives. The composite construction with water tight seal prevents water damage to the contents caused by flooding or by water used in fighting a fire. This waterproof safe will float making it easy to find during a flood, and it will remain dry inside even if fully submerged. The safe also includes an override key that will open the safe if the passcode is forgotten or the batteries go dead. The 2096DF also includes a removable extendable handle with two wheels so that it can be easily moved.

Very good for keeping photos and other memories from being consumed by the fire or destroyed by the water. Mostly a plastic container that floats and it is supposed be water resistant.

I bought this safe since it had the best ratings for fire resistance and water protection. I wanted to have a safe to keep my important papers in it and know they are protected in case of fire. As theft protection, it is poorly constructed, plastic case and pretty light. The safe even full slides very easily across carpeted floors and even hardwood floors so it can be carried out of the house very easily. A nice feature that it comes with rollers casters attached and a handle. It is very convenient for transporting it to the location desired but makes it easier to be carried out of the house too so I removed after I moved it in. The safe cannot be bolted to the floor or a back wall. I hope it is as good as it is rated for fire and water protection, although they recommend to put documents in gladware or other waterproof containers ?. The water seal does not look incouraging, the door, closed has play in it which makes me think the seal is questionable. The construstion is not sturdy, a lot of plastic parts and it does not look like it is going to last long or take abuse. So far everything works as it should but I got very disappointed when I received it. The front panel with keypad will surely be destroyed by fire, since it is plastic too. The deadbolts lock into plastic openings and if you close the door with the bolts extended you can damage it very easily. It is spacious, has two trays for light objects since they were already warped - plastic too with very bad clearances - had to deburr the trays to make them slide in and out. It has a tray for file hangers Why? Arent you supposed to put your docs in gladware????. Now i am planning to buy another safe for my handguns and valuables since this safe is mostly a fire safe. And I say this wihout knowing how this safe will look after a fire, can only say that the water from the fire department will probably get in without much effort.
