10-Year Battery Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Digital Temperature Display Product Description
The First Alert® CO5-B10D Carbon Monoxide Alarm offers reliable, installation‑free carbon monoxide (CO) detection for your home or while traveling. Designed to sit on any tabletop or shelf, it features an easy‑to‑read backlit digital display that shows both the room temperature and CO levels when detected. The built-in 10-year lithium battery means you don't need to worry about changing batteries or low-battery chirps for the lifetime of the detector.
Carbon Monoxide Detection Without Installation
Unlike plug-in and hardwired carbon monoxide alarms, the First Alert CO5-B10D detector does not require access to an electrical outlet or household wiring. Its battery-powered tabletop design allows it to be placed on a stable flat surface in bedrooms, living areas and other appropriate locations throughout the home.
Because the alarm does not need to be permanently mounted, it can also be moved to another suitable location when needed. Always follow the placement and clearance instructions provided in the user manual.
Backlit Digital Temperature and CO Display
The easy-to-read backlit digital display provides more information than a basic carbon monoxide alarm. During normal use, the display shows the ambient room temperature. When carbon monoxide is detected, the screen displays CO concentration information to help you understand the detected conditions.
Peak-Level Memory
Peak-level memory stores the highest carbon monoxide concentration detected by the alarm. Following a CO incident, this information may help homeowners, emergency responders or qualified service professionals evaluate what occurred.
The CO5-B10D detector is a residential carbon monoxide alarm and should not be treated as a specialized low-level CO monitor or professional testing instrument. Never ignore an alarm, even if no one can see or smell a source of carbon monoxide.
Sealed 10-Year Battery with No Routine Replacement
The First Alert CO5-B10D alarm has a built-in lithium battery designed to power the alarm for its intended 10-year service life. Because the battery is sealed inside the alarm, there are no routine battery changes and no removable battery to replace. An end-of-life warning lets you know when the alarm has reached the end of its operating life and should be replaced.
A Portable Travel Carbon Monoxide Detector
Carbon monoxide incidents can happen away from home as well as inside your primary residence. Because this CO alarm does not require an outlet or permanent installation, it can be packed for use in hotels, vacation rentals and other temporary accommodations.
When traveling, place the alarm on a stable surface according to First Alert's instructions. Before traveling by air, review current FAA and airline requirements for carrying devices that contain lithium batteries.
Common Sources of Carbon Monoxide
Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless gas produced when fuels do not burn completely. A working carbon monoxide alarm is the only reliable way to receive an alert when dangerous CO levels develop inside a home.
Potential household sources of carbon monoxide include:
- Furnaces and boilers
- Gas stoves and ovens
- Gas or oil water heaters
- Fuel-burning fireplaces
- Gas-powered clothes dryers
- Portable generators and fuel-powered equipment
- Vehicles running in or near an attached garage
- Blocked, damaged or improperly vented chimneys and appliances
Place carbon monoxide alarms near or within each separate sleeping area so the alarm can be heard while occupants are asleep. For added protection, install an alarm in every bedroom and on every level of the home.
- Single-level homes: Place at least one CO alarm near or within each separate sleeping area.
- Multi-level homes: Place an alarm near each sleeping area and on every floor. If the home has a basement, place an alarm at the top of the basement stairs.
- Long bedroom hallways: If a hallway is longer than 40 feet, place a CO alarm at both ends.
- Mobile homes: Place CO alarms near interior walls only. Uninsulated exterior walls and roofs can transfer outdoor heat and cold.
Keep the alarm at least 20 feet from furnaces, water heaters and other fuel-burning heat sources, and at least 5 feet from cooking appliances. It should also be at least 10 feet from bathrooms, showers, saunas, humidifiers, dishwashers, laundry rooms and other sources of high humidity.
Do not place the alarm in garages, kitchens, furnace rooms or extremely dusty, dirty or greasy areas. Avoid unfinished attics, crawl spaces, porches and other locations where temperatures may fall below 40°F or rise above 100°F. The alarm should also be kept away from ceiling fans, heating and cooling vents, air returns, open windows and other sources of turbulent air that could prevent carbon monoxide from reaching the sensor.
Always follow the placement instructions included with the alarm and any applicable local carbon monoxide alarm requirements.
Yes. The First Alert CO5-B10D-T can be mounted to a wall or placed on a tabletop. For wall installation, position the alarm at least 4 inches from where the wall meets the ceiling. Use the included mounting template to mark the holes, install the plastic anchors and screws, and slide the alarm onto the screws until it clicks securely into place.
When using the alarm on a tabletop or shelf, place it on a stable surface no more than 3 feet above the floor. This helps reduce the risk of permanent damage if the alarm is accidentally knocked to the ground. Always follow the complete mounting and placement instructions in the user manual.
