Identify sources of lead in your home and how to keep your family safe. Lead is a highly toxic metal that was used for many years in products found in and around our homes. Lead may cause a range of health effects, from behavioral problems and learning disabilities, to seizures and death. Children 6 years old and under are most at risk, because their bodies are growing quickly.
Check Your Home for Lead
The First Alert Premium Lead Test Kit checks toys, dishes, and costume jewelry for dangerous amounts of lead. Use it when renovating to check for tainted woodwork or paint. It can even be used to check old pipes for lead, making sure the water supply for your home or office is not contaminated.
Easy and Safe to Use
The kit contains everything you need to test for lead, and the easy-to-understand instructions walk you through how to test items. The four-step process is easy: simply wipe the item you want to test clean, dip the enclosed cotton swap into the solution provided, rub it on the item, and read the results using the provided instructions.
No Laboratory Fees or Mailing Samples
The results of each test are almost immediate. The kit does not require you to spend time mailing samples to laboratories and waiting for the results to come back. The First Alert Premium Lead Test Kit is an easy and inexpensive way to test for lead at home, the office, or almost anywhere else.
Research suggests that the primary sources of lead exposure for most children are:

I would like to know about the solution in the lead test kit. is it toxic, is it easily washable off the products it is applied on?
Customer Service Response:
With regards to the solution and safety, The LT1's manual states that owners should: 1) Perform all testing in a well-ventilated area- outdoors, if possible. 2) Avoid contact with Indicator Solution. 3) Wash hands with soap & water after handling items which have tested positive for lead.
