This is the second First Alert fire escape ladder I have purchased over the years. It is indispensable for anyone living in a two story house with only one stairway. I've always rested better knowing it was at hand if needed and now I'll rest better knowing my grandson has this same vital protection.

I recently had a fire in my home in the kitchen, filled the house with smoke. I wasn't home at the time, but I wouldn't have been ably to get off the second floor. I order the ladder it will be perfect!!

This escape ladder has an emergency release strap which also doubles as a tie to hold all the rungs in place while storing so it can be quickly and easily moved and put into the window in an emergency. Haven't had to use mine yet, but it feels very solid and is of a high quality construction, but isn't too heavy. I checked it out thoroughly and simulated using it so I would know how if the time came. Just having this in my second story rooms makes me feel safer. This is the third one I have purchased so each room has one, compact box fits under the bed in one room and behind a chair by the window in the other room. If you have a 2-story place, make sure to have at least one of these upstairs in case you ever need it. TIP: If Fire, close bedroom door before opening your window so the influx of oxygen doesn't pull fire into the room.

Looks good so far in the box. It stores nicely under my daughter's bed. In the Spring, I will try it out on the kids as a test and write more about it then when it warms up.

Two-Story Escape Ladder
The First Alert Two-Story Fire Escape Ladder provides a means of escape from a second-story window in the event of a fire or other emergency. This 14-foot ladder can hold up to 375 lbs. at a time. It is constructed with steel anti-slip rungs and DuPont Cordura nylon strapping for strength and stability. The fire safety ladder can be used on standard window sills, stored under a bed or in a closet for easy access, and comes fully assembled.
Built for Durability
Constructed from steel and DuPont Cordura nylon strapping, the First Alert Two-Story Escape ladder is designed to easily deploy from a standard windowsill. The fire ladder can hold up to 375 lbs. of weight at one time and anti-slip rungs are coated in epoxy for traction. The fire ladder meets standards set by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
Provides a Stable Climb Down
Each rung has steel stabilizers, designed to hold the ladder away from the wall, making it easier to grasp each rung. The stabilizers also work to keep the ladder from swaying, providing a safer means of escape that gets you out faster. Sturdy steel hooks hold the ladder to window sills measuring between 6 and 10 in. wide.
Folds for Easy Storage
The 14 ft. ladder arrives fully assembled and folds back up after opening. Ideal for storing in a closet or under a bed, the ladder's compact size makes it easy to put one ladder in every room for safety. The ladder is ready to use in less than one minute and is lightweight at 12 lbs.
